Job Summary/Basic Function This position is responsible for administering the University’s benefit programs to include insurance and retirement programs. Primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, adhering to federal, state laws and policies/procedures of the University in relation to “benefits” and “payroll”; e-verifying new employees; processing benefits for new employees; working and analyzing various benefits reports, such as the Benefits Error Report and other benefits-related reports; working and analyzing the Billing Error Report; maintaining benefits notifications; training on benefits changes during Annual Enrollment; processing benefit changes for employee and retirees during correction periods and as needed based on qualifying status changes; processing enrollment forms status changes and other benefits related forms on an ongoing basis; conducting the “benefits orientation” for all new employees; addressing questions and concerns from employees, graduate students and retirees; counseling employees on retirement eligibility and procedures; planning and organizing the University’s Annual Health and Wellness Fair.The successful candidate must have excellent time management and analytical skills; effective judgment, tact, diplomacy and discretion; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and excellent computer skills to include the use of the MS Office Suite. Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends.

The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by the Health Insurance Accountability and Portability Act (HIPAA) regulations. The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with Texas A&M University System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training immediately upon employment and annually thereafter.

Minimum Salary or Hourly Rate: $41,328.00+ – Salary commensurate with education and experience
Preferred Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business, preferably with a Human Resources focus
Preferred Experience Requirements: Five to seven years of directly related experience in the HR field, inclusive of at least three years in the area of benefits.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Three to five years experience in the HR field, inclusive of some experience in the area of benefits.
Minimum Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree
Required Certifications/Licensures A PHR/SPHR certification is preferred for this position
