Job Summary:

Xavier University of Louisiana, a Historically Black and Catholic University located in New Orleans, invites applications for a Director of Board Relations. The position reports to the President and is responsible for administrative support to the President and Board of Trustees, including the Chair of the Board and the associated committee chairs and pertinent senior university officers. The Director also provides administrative support for the Presidential Advisory Board and other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities include organization of all meetings of the full board and of board committees including coordination of tele- and/or video- conferencing; timely provision of communications and supplemental materials prior to meetings; recording and distributing meeting minutes; establishing and maintaining a secure web portal for board members to exchange information including documents and minutes; acting as liaison with the Association of Governing Boards (AGB) for distribution of information regarding professional development for members; maintaining and updating all board records, including rosters of membership terms, biographies, and committee assignments; editing the Trustee website and Board Handbook yearly; in collaboration with the president and senior administration, planning and facilitating orientation for new trustees; assisting with travel, accommodations and transportation needs of trustees as requested; and managing the Board Relations annual budget.

Minimum Qualifications: Five years of pertinent experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; Preference will be given to a record of prior experience that demonstrates the mastery of the qualities indicated above.

In addition, the successful candidate will have: experience in an administrative staff position at a college or university as well as experience working with senior administrators and executives who are leaders in their fields. Advanced computer skills including Word PowerPoint, and Excel are also very important.

Special Requirements: Working in a team-oriented, customer service-focused environment as a member of the President’s professional and confidential staff, the Director must be a self-starter, well organized and observant of time management with attention to details. Demonstrable interpersonal and written/oral communication skills are essential. Because the full Board meets three times a year, periods of multi-tasking and the ability to be flexible are indispensable.
