PAY GRADE/SALARY RANGE: Negotiable *Florida A&M University is accepting applications for Head Football Coach. This is a 12 month administrative position with full benefits.

The Head Football Coach reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and is responsible for directing all phases of the day-to-day operations of the Florida A&M University football program, including but not limited to: effective coaching and student-athlete development; successfully recruiting, retaining, and graduating high performing student-athletes; preparation, organization, design and implementation of effective practice plans, off-season programs, scouting reports, and recruiting systems; effective and timely budget management, equipment oversight, and travel planning; a commitment to community engagement, fund raising and effective public relations; adherence to NCAA I, MEAC Conference, and FCS rules and regulations.

Primary responsibilities include coaching, practice planning and organization, budget management, the recruitment of qualified student-athletes, fundraising and spring home event oversight. Evening and weekend hours are required.

Florida A&M University is a part of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference of historically black colleges and universities in the Southeastern and the Mid-Atlantic United States. It participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I and in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree and one year of coaching experience at the high school level or above; or a bachelor’s degree and three years of experience at the high school level or above. Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a Master’s Degree and at least 3 years of college head coaching experience.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong interest and experience in an intercollegiate athletics setting as well as familiarity with the Division I rules and regulations. This individual must be a self -starter and possess a proven ability to achieve goals in addition to having strong organizational and interpersonal skills, recruitment experience, and the ability to multi task and problem solve.

Job Description Position Title: Director of Athletics

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed and are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified. All duties listed are essential functions for the position. It is understood that other related duties may be assigned.

General Function (Description):

The Athletic Director of Clark Atlanta University will provide leadership and direction for all competitive intercollegiate sports programs. Current intercollegiate sports include Football, Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country, Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, Women’s Tennis, Volleyball, and Softball. The Athletic Director is responsible for maintaining an athletic program that stresses the student-athlete concept. The Athletic Director is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Clark-Atlanta University, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and the NCAA.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative direction and oversight for all athletic programs and activities.
  • Supervise full and part-time athletics staff.
  • Monitor equality of opportunity in Men’s and Women’s athletics.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of press releases and the arrangement of media coverage for athletic events.
  • Attend team practice sessions and games and provide in-person support for the coaching staff and student athletes.
  • Conduct and present an annual evaluation of each head coach.
  • Recruit Student athletes in coordination with the Admissions Office and develop alumni athletic events, community relationships and fundraising opportunities.
  • Generate revenue through programs.
  • Coordinate the development of long-term strategies and facilities plans.
  • Provide leadership for marketing the athletic programs among students, faculty, staff alumni and the community
  • Provide and maintain athletic departmental budget and oversight of team budgets.
  • Maintain official departmental files, records and prepare reports.
  • Coordinate search committees for selection of new coaches.
  • Meet with head coaches on a regular basis and provide support for the professional development of the coaching staff members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge in sports administration, marketing, promotion and fundraising.
  • Demonstrate a complete knowledge and understanding of athletic procedures and compliance guidelines of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, National Collegiate Athletic Association and the institution.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and ability to respond to the general public concerning the total athletic program.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment and strong decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrate and exhibit high standards of moral and ethical conduct.
  • Demonstrate fair and impartial treatment of staff, student-athletes and recognize the dignity of each person.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
Bachelor’s Degree Required.
Master’s Degree in Physical Education, Administration or related field.
Doctorate in Sports Administration preferred.

Years of Experience
5-10 years collegiate experience in Division II Athletics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of the NCAA rules and regulations is required.

Years of Management/Supervisor Experience
10 years of Supervisory experience preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:  The Head Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Athletics. Manages and oversees all aspects of the athletic training program for 12 intercollegiate sports as well as the cheer squad. Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Coordination of the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of all athletic injuries; management and administration of the overall sports medicine budget to ensure that all medical needs of the department are met within the allocated resources; maintenance of records relating to medical information for all current and past student-athletes; procurement and maintenance of all training room equipment and supplies; responsible for ensuring that all regulations are followed with respect to the privacy of student medical records; oversight of student-athlete insurance issues, and ensures that all student-athletes are properly insured.  Ensures the timely administration of student-athlete insurance claims with third party claims administrator Responsible for ensuring appropriate trainer coverage for all practices and games.

Qualifications: 1.) Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, certification by the Board of Certification; 2.) Demonstrated experience as an Athletic Trainer at the Collegiate Level with football oversight; 3.) Demonstrated experience providing preventive care and rehabilitation services; 4.) Demonstrated experience working with health care providers AL state licensed or eligible; 5.) Strong verbal and written communication skills; 6.) Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; 7.) CPR certification, and AED certification is also required.
