Description of primary duties and responsibilities: The Department of Educational Leadership invites applications and nominations for department chair, a tenure-track, 11-month position at the rank of full/associate professor as determined by higher education experience and scholarly record of the applicant.

Description Of Work: The department seeks an accomplished colleague and department chair with extensive higher education and some K-12 experience. The chair is the chief academic, administrative, and fiscal officer for the department – a leader who is the contact person and chief advocate for faculty, staff, and students. We seek an enthusiastic leader who will effectively communicate the vision and purpose of the department and institution to internal and external stakeholders. The chair provides leadership for a dynamic department that houses the university’s only doctoral program – Educational Leadership, a Masters in School Administration (MSA), and offers undergraduate service courses. The chair provides visionary leadership to promote high quality scholarly activities, curriculum development and delivery, professional development, and the procurement of external funding and represents the department at all administrative and meetings. The chair reports directly to the Dean, School of Education.
The successful candidate will:
•Provide leadership and ensure that instruction and research are transformative, progressive, innovative, high quality, and compatible with university’s strategic plans;
•Serve as liaison to local agencies that serve departmental programs academic constituencies;
•Serve as the department’s representative throughout the department, school, and university;
•Facilitate collaboration with other academic units and programs on and off-campus;
•Participate with other School of Education leaders in establishing policy and procedures for graduate and undergraduate programs;
•Manage budget, and departmental resources;
•Facilitate fair, open, constructive, and productive communication among administrators, faculty, staff, and students;
•Promote collegiality, mutual trust, respect, cooperation, and collaboration among team members;
•Foster excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service among faculty, staff, and students;
•Facilitate and maintain accreditation and manage the assessment processes;
•Recruit, retain, and advocate for faculty and staff;
•Conduct annual faculty and staff performance evaluations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • An earned doctoral degree (with dissertation) in Educational Leadership/Administration from an accredited institution;
    •Evidence of eligibility for rank at Associate/Full professor (reflecting a record of excellence in scholarship, higher education teaching, and service);
    •Previous administrative experience in higher education (experience of successfully serving in the role of department chair of a similar department preferred).
Knowledge skills and abilities:
  • At least five years of full-time higher education teaching experience at the ranks of both assistant and associate professor levels;
    •Verifiable evidence of having gone through the academic ranks at an accredited university;
    •Experience full-time teaching of doctoral and masters courses, with experience chairing doctoral dissertations
    •Demonstrated commitment to excellence, innovation, collegial, transformational leadership; and social justice;
    •Experience mentoring or supervising faculty;
    •Proven experience with securing external funding;
    •Strong communication, organizational, and technological skills;
    •Experience with SACS, NCATE accreditation
    •Experience working with assessment systems and online instructional processes
    •Other duties as assigned;
    •Teaching doctoral classes at least 50% of the load
