Education, Minimum Training and Experience Required:
A Ph.D. in the discipline of Political Science is required. Other types of Ph.D.’s will not be considered. Political Science Specialization or Subfield areas must include one or more of the following: American Government & Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, Public Law, Judicial Process, Race & Ethnicity, and/or Quantitative & Qualitative Methods. The desired candidate should have teaching experience in Political Science at the college level. Forthcoming or research in progress is a plus. Advanced ABD’s considered.
Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach a range of Political Science courses at the undergraduate level in area(s) of specialization including American National Government courses, and introductory and upper-level courses for Political Science majors
  • Participate in curriculum review and development
  • Assist in recruiting majors for the Department at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities and publish in his or her area specialty
  • Attend national and regional conferences and engage in other professional development activities
  • Write grants related for funding in area(s) of research
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Serve on various committees as assigned
  • Attend faculty meetings, convocations, commencements and other official university and departmental functions as requested
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Department Head, Dean of the College/School, or Provost

Education, Minimum Training and Experience Required:
The desired candidate must possess a MSN degree and minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in the field. A commitment to the academic achievement of a diverse population. An excellent academic record and evidence of potential to make significant contributions to the field. A commitment to teaching and to the successful development of majors in the department.

Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:

Teach all courses assigned by the Director.

Serve and provide assistance on all committees to which he/she is assigned.

Engage in scholarly work and to involve students in this work whenever feasible.

Support the Coordinator of Graduate Admissions in the recruitment and retention of minority students.

Assist with curriculum reviews and analysis at the department/college/university level.

Attend faculty meetings, convocations, and commencements, and to participate in other official University functions when requested.

Serve as a mentor who will work closely with the Graduate Retention Office in instituting retention efforts for students enrolled in the program and also meet the student/faculty ratio for student clinical experiences.

Insure that all programs in the department have currency and that they contribute to the mission of the University.

Assist with providing leadership and counsel for student organizations in the department.

Perform other tasks assigned by the Department Head, dean of the College/School, or Provost.

Admissions and Recruitment

Must possess a bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred). Excellent public relation skills are required, including the ability to make oral presentations. Must be willing to travel frequently, including evenings, overnight and weekends. Must have a valid driver’s license, an excellent driving record, required automobile liability insurance, and reliable transportation (as needed). Proficient computer skills (MS Access, PowerPoint, and Excel preferred), excellent oral and written communication skills, a working knowledge of MS Word Mail Merge, and the demonstrated ability to be a team player are also required. Knowledge of the Banner Student System preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Execute a transfer recruitment plan to support the University’s transfer student enrollment goals
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a transfer student information web page on the University website
  • In conjunction with the Lead Transfer Analyst, maintain any updates regarding transfer articulation agreements
  • Maintain accurate data in the Banner system on transfer students for compliance and reporting purposes
  • Recruit students at community colleges, and various other college recruiting functions, providing prospective students with admission criteria and other pertinent information for enrollment
  • Coordinate recruiting efforts, in conjunction with alumni and other volunteer recruiters, at community colleges, churches, and other locations
  • Supervise telecounseling efforts during peak call-back periods
  • Supervise data entry of prospect information to insure prompt follow-up
  • Assists with implementation of office-sponsored recruiting events
  • Utilize the communication plan processing in the Banner system, conduct timely and frequent follow-up with prospective students to ensure receipt of pertinent admission and other enrollment documents
  • Provide training to volunteer and alumni recruiters
  • Send recruiting packages to prospective students upon request
  • Collect, review, evaluate and process admission applications in accordance with university policies
  • Counsel prospective students/parents concerning admissions, scholarships, and residential life
  • Assist in compiling data that supports the GRAD Act
