Director of Alumni Affairs

Position Title Director of Alumni Affairs
Essential Duties The Director of Alumni Affairs reports to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and has three primary functions: managing the Office of Alumni Affairs, coordinating the University’s alumni relations efforts, and coordinating and managing the Alumni Annual Fund program.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: working directly with the Vice President and other development staff to determine capital resource needs for the University and implementing a plan to secure those resources through the Alumni Annual Fund Program and other alumni related fundraising events; identifying, cultivating, and stewarding gifts from alumni and friends in support of the University’s funding priorities and providing appropriate records on each donor to the database manager for recording in the donor database; fostering positive relationships with all graduates, ex-students and parents, keeping them informed of events, activities and programs at the University; in cooperation with the Vice President and staff, establishing qualitative and quantitative goals and objectives to increase alumni giving and dollars raised; developing a system of accountability and providing monthly progress reports and assessments toward reaching those goals; working as the liaison to and resource person for the International Alumni Association in developing new chapters, providing workshops on leadership development, and when possible assisting with Association events; arranging meetings for the President of the University with alumni and alumni groups around the country; incorporating innovative and creative strategies relative to job responsibilities; using discretion and judgment to problem solve in a timely and effective fashion to increase alumni involvement in University events; working with the appropriate persons to update and maintain the Alumni web site in a timely fashion; assisting with material for the University Magazine including gathering data on alumni for feature articles; working with the Vice President on all United Negro College Fund events and fundraising; and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, preferably from Huston-Tillotson University, graduate degree preferred; extensive experience in Alumni Relations at an institution of higher education or a related field may substitute for educational qualifications; excellent writing, speaking, interpersonal and management skills; proficiency in database applications – data entry and retrieval, mail merge, etc.; commitment to the mission of the University, to the leadership of the President, and to the development and growth of Huston-Tillotson University.

DEAN OF UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, HUSTON-TILLOTSON UNIVERSITY, AUSTIN, TX

The Dean is the head of the University College and assists the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs in accomplishing the University’s retention goals by coordinating and monitoring all aspects of academic progress and student learning outcomes of first and second year students. Effectively works as a member of a team by collaborating with faculty, staff and administration in responding to outside accrediting agencies and effectively engaging in strategic planning, performance evaluations, program reviews and other assessments of the University’s effectiveness.


Duties include, but are not limited to: serving as a channel of communication between University College faculty and the Provost/VPASA; promoting faculty and staff professional growth; ensuring the quality of University College academic programs, services, faculty, and staff; preparing and administering the University College annual budget; carrying out strategic planning; recommending appointments of faculty and staff; providing resources to support the goals and objectives of the University College; and serving as an advocate for excellence in teaching, research, student learning outcomes, and community outreach and service. The Dean supervises both faculty and staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership and vision to the University College; work with faculty to create an academic, cultural, and physical environment conducive to scholarship, intellectual vitality, and learning; and establish and nurture a supportive diverse work environment.
  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of programs and plans designed to aid in student retention
  • Promotes the Vision, Mission and Core Values of the University through the activities and programs of the University College and work with other University administrators to ensure the well-being and success of HT.
  • Provides leadership in the assessment and improvement of the General Education program, including faculty, curriculum, program development, and support services.
  • Serves as HT’s liaison for UNCF scholarships and internships, and provides leadership for the identification and awarding of other student scholarships, internships, and grants.
  • In conjunction with the Convocations and Assemblies Committee, plans and coordinates Honors Day and other events/activities to recognize students’ academic achievements.
  • Teaches a minimum of two courses in a discipline offered within the University.
  • The Dean reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, and serves as a member of the President’s Administrative Council and serves on the Dean’s Council.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in one of the major areas offered at HT required.

  • Familiarity with issues facing church related, historically black colleges and universities;

Associate Registrar—HUSTON-TILLOTSON COLLEGE (Austin, Texas)

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Registrar, the Associate Registrar assists the Registrar in the direction and coordination of all facets of the operations of the Registrar’s Office including student registration and records, class schedules, graduation clearance, and other related matters.  Plans and develops strategies for maintenance and upgrading of academic information infrastructure including academic records archives, on-line student database, and other electronic databases and information systems; Recommends and participates in the development and implementation of University policies and procedures regarding student registration, records, class schedules, residency requirements, and graduation requirements; Prepares Student Directory each semester; Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
