Assistant Director of Library Information Technology-Morgan State University

Duties:  Serves as the Library’s Assistant Director for Information Technology and Multi-media Resources;  assist the Library’s administration and staff in the planning, development, and management of its technological infrastructure and access; serves as the Library’s technical resource person regarding maximizing the use of electronic technology to deliver services and access information;  coordinates the planning, design,  development, integration, implementation and maintenance of automated systems in consultation with the Director of Library Services; library department managers, other University Information Managers as required; advises the Director of Library Services on areas of potential automation; evaluates requests for data processing, and computing services and equipment, and establishes priorities in consultation with the Director of Library Services; ensures the stable operation of all in-house hardware, software, server, and network connections; functions as the liaison between the Library and the University’s information technology-related entities both internal and external to the University; manages and coordinates the design, construction, and maintenance of the Library’s web pages; plans and establishes goals for Library information technology; explores and evaluates emerging technologies for digital library services; oversees the purchase of system components; represents the Library in appropriate technology-related activities at the campus, local, state, regional, and national levels; provides administrative and technical support for databases accessed via the web; compiles and analyzes data relative to theavailability, accessibility, and use of information technology resources for Library clientele; manages the Library’s collection of multi-media resources, along with the equipment needed to access them; trains, supervises, and evaluates support staff and student assistants; may work days, nights, and weekends, and performs other duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Library Sciences, or related  field; Five (5) years (Bachelor’s) or Three (3) years (Master’s) experience information technology  infrastructure development and management; Three years experience in developing, working with, and managing multi-media resources with web design, server operating systems, and integrated library systems.

Preferred:    Experience in an academic library setting.

Requirements:   Knowledge of library functions, trends, and applications; knowledge of information technology and web-based resources; knowledge of network server and integrated network server and integrated library systems; e.g. Aleph; skill in the development and management of multi-media resources; web design and implementation experience; ability to install and maintain library-specific applications; ability to advance the technological and education goals of the Library; and the ability to supervise.
