Associate Librarian for Special Collections & Archives

Job Description:

This position serves as the University Archivist and provides supervision and management for all aspects of archival and special collections management, including administrative and financial management, virtual and physical maintenance of paper and digital collections, and service to researchers and donor relations. Also, will coordinate and manage a program of digital, multimedia and paper based records and historical documents; will define and apply the methodology and standards for best practices to born digital and digitized collections; will lead the implementation of digital technologies for online accessible collections; will supervise part-time staff and students; and plan, develop, maintain, and process procedures and manuals to support the management and processing of all archival content.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program in MLS/MLIS, History, or Archival Studies with at least five years’ experience in special collections or archives in a university or research library is required. Experience with digital library development in the context of special collections and archives; knowledge of emerging metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, etc.); demonstrated experience with digital content management systems (CONTENTdm, Archivists’ Toolkit, etc.); supervisory experience required; demonstrated project management skills are required; knowledge or coursework in Virginia state history with special emphasis on African-Americans is preferred; knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and other web based applications required; strong organizational skills required; excellent oral and written communication skills required; and proven track record of good customer service skills is desired.

Reference Librarian

Job Description: 

This position reports to the Associate Librarian for Public Services and provides general and specialized reference services to Library users; and provides leadership to integrate library resources into a distance education program; serves as coordinating librarian for distance learning services; develops materials in support of online learning; cooperatively maintains library web pages and social media for distance learning. The Reference/Distance Services Librarian will assist with general orientation sessions and course integrated instruction to develop information literacy competencies. Also, assist in collection development and evaluation for designated departments; participates in reference/information desk duty; works an evening and rotating weekend assignment. This position will also require the supervision and training of student assistants.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program is required. Considerable experience working in Reference Services; knowledge of current and emerging trends in instructional technologies, electronic resources and emerging technologies; experience using distance learning technologies such as Blackboard, WebCT or Moodle; experience using Microsoft Office Suite is required; excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills are required; commitment to great customer service; ability to work cooperatively and adapt to new technologies; experience working in an academic library is required; must be available and willing to work a flexible schedule, to include one evening a week and rotating weekend schedule.

Education Coordinator I –VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY (Petersburg, Virginia)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides technical assistance to local school division personnel, university faculty, professional organizations, and business organizations; develops materials to support technical assistance needs of teachers and students participating in the TSA programs; implements and strengthens TSA activities as an integral part of statewide technology education curriculum of local school divisions; organizes and coordinates regional workshops and statewide student leadership conferences; prepares curriculum-based testing materials for regional and state competitive events programs; evaluates TSA programs and activities at the regional and statewide level in order to develop relevant co-curricular instructional resource materials and publications for classroom and laboratory implementation; works with the Virginia Department of Education staff to develop needs assessment tools; evaluate data and determine statewide program needs and report program success; provides in-services and other support activities and teaching strategies to maintain, improve and expand the technology education student organization as an integral part of the curriculum of local school divisions; maintains detailed financial records that follow requirements necessary to prepare financial statements in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles and procedures; and maintain membership records for periodic review and presentation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of the Technology Student Association organizational management structure and policies; considerable knowledge of technology education with emphasis on communication, manufacturing, construction, transportation biotechnology resources used by students in middle and high schools, and of STEM; knowledge and ability to establish and maintain business partnerships, association policies, regulations and bylaws, and provide assistance to the governing body; some knowledge of financial management related to non-profit organizations to include conference arrangements, processing payment vouchers and establishing and maintaining budgets; skill using Microsoft Suite, i.e., MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, and e-mail and Internet; a valid teaching license with endorsement in Technology Education is required. Also, must have experience teaching Technology Education in the classroom and as a Technology Student Association Advisor.
