Job Summary:

Xavier University of Louisiana, a Historically Black and Catholic University located in New Orleans, invites applications for a Director of Board Relations. The position reports to the President and is responsible for administrative support to the President and Board of Trustees, including the Chair of the Board and the associated committee chairs and pertinent senior university officers. The Director also provides administrative support for the Presidential Advisory Board and other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities include organization of all meetings of the full board and of board committees including coordination of tele- and/or video- conferencing; timely provision of communications and supplemental materials prior to meetings; recording and distributing meeting minutes; establishing and maintaining a secure web portal for board members to exchange information including documents and minutes; acting as liaison with the Association of Governing Boards (AGB) for distribution of information regarding professional development for members; maintaining and updating all board records, including rosters of membership terms, biographies, and committee assignments; editing the Trustee website and Board Handbook yearly; in collaboration with the president and senior administration, planning and facilitating orientation for new trustees; assisting with travel, accommodations and transportation needs of trustees as requested; and managing the Board Relations annual budget.

Minimum Qualifications: Five years of pertinent experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; Preference will be given to a record of prior experience that demonstrates the mastery of the qualities indicated above.

In addition, the successful candidate will have: experience in an administrative staff position at a college or university as well as experience working with senior administrators and executives who are leaders in their fields. Advanced computer skills including Word PowerPoint, and Excel are also very important.

Job Summary

The Department of Sociology in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Xavier University of Louisiana, a Historically Black Catholic University located in the heart of New Orleans, invites applicants for TWO tenure-track assistant professor positions beginning August 2015. Applicants should have a PhD in sociology, though ABDs will be considered.

The successful candidate for one position will have primary teaching and research specializations in criminology/deviance, with the primary specialization for the other position in medical sociology. Secondary specializations for either position include race and ethnicity, urban and community sociology, gender, and family. Candidates for both positions are expected to develop a broad range of courses, including undergraduate research methods.

The sociology program actively supports Xavier’s mission of promoting a more just and humane society through service-learning projects and community-based research collaborations. In addition to New Orleans’ vibrant culture and dynamic urban revitalization, Xavier’s location provides a rich and fertile research environment with ample opportunities for community engagement, teaching innovation, and research collaborations.

The Distance Education Coordinator works with faculty and staff to promote electronic instruction, to develop online and hybrid courses, and to provide instructional design services for faculty.
