Required Experience Seven years of related experience as a Certified Peace Officer including at least five years of law enforcement management experience at the rank of Lieutenant or at least five years of related experience in law enforcement at an institution of higher education
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of the criminal justice system. Knowledge of information required by State and Federal governments. Knowledge of employee background checks, principles, and practices of public administration and modern management methods.

Law Enforcement Leadership training, weapons, radar, and baton certifications. Valid driver’s license.

Posting Summary The University Police Department takes the lead in providing a safe environment for the university community by protecting life and property by deterring and detecting crime, reporting fires and safety hazards and controlling traffic on campus. The Chief of Police reports directly to the Vice President of Auxiliary Services. This position serves as the senior law enforcement officer for PVAMU and supervises, plans, directs, coordinates and implements departmental goals, policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with all departmental units to ensure the safety and welfare of all students, faculty, staff and visitors associated with the University through crime prevention, work with local law enforcement agencies and lead community police efforts.

Job Summary/Basic Function This position is responsible for administering the University’s benefit programs to include insurance and retirement programs. Primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, adhering to federal, state laws and policies/procedures of the University in relation to “benefits” and “payroll”; e-verifying new employees; processing benefits for new employees; working and analyzing various benefits reports, such as the Benefits Error Report and other benefits-related reports; working and analyzing the Billing Error Report; maintaining benefits notifications; training on benefits changes during Annual Enrollment; processing benefit changes for employee and retirees during correction periods and as needed based on qualifying status changes; processing enrollment forms status changes and other benefits related forms on an ongoing basis; conducting the “benefits orientation” for all new employees; addressing questions and concerns from employees, graduate students and retirees; counseling employees on retirement eligibility and procedures; planning and organizing the University’s Annual Health and Wellness Fair.The successful candidate must have excellent time management and analytical skills; effective judgment, tact, diplomacy and discretion; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and excellent computer skills to include the use of the MS Office Suite. Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends.

The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by the Health Insurance Accountability and Portability Act (HIPAA) regulations. The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with Texas A&M University System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training immediately upon employment and annually thereafter.
